A mother and son’s dementia journey.

Reid Stewart has walked alongside his mother, Audrey Stewart, a retired nurse and social worker, as both her son and care partner. After Audrey was diagnosed with vascular and frontotemporal dementia, they set out together to learn how to live well with dementia at home - a journey of love.
From day one, our overarching goal has been to be as active as possible, and to experience moments of joy and happiness.

In a short (16min) video presentation available to view for free on Vimeo, Reid explains the simple daily, weekly, monthly and annual care routines and positive communication strategies that support emotional wellbeing for both himself and for Audrey. He describes how a focus on feelings and affection helps them find beautiful moments each day and helps them move through challenging moments and behaviours.
The shared experiences of living with dementia are teaching me to be more loving, more kind, more patient, and is showing me how to be truly present with others.
